This privacy policy covers FuelCheckVIC — both the Android app and this web app (together, the "App", "we", "us", or "our"). Both are companions that show the same live Victorian fuel price data; where their data practices differ, it's noted below.

1. Information We Collect

Location Information

The Android app may request permission to access your device's location, continuously or while in use, to show your position on the map and find nearby fuel stations. The web app asks your browser for a one-off location fix only when you tap the "Centre on my location" button, using the standard browser Geolocation API. In both cases, location is only requested if you grant permission, is used solely to centre the map and sort stations by distance, and is never sent to or stored on our servers.

Usage Data and Analytics

Android app: we automatically collect certain information when you use the app, such as device and usage characteristics, operating system, language, and how you interact with the app, via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. This is used to maintain app stability and for internal reporting; it does not reveal your specific identity.

Web app: we use Firebase Analytics (registered as its own Firebase Web App, separate from the Android app) to collect the same kind of usage information — such as device and browser characteristics, how you interact with the page, and general location derived from IP address — for internal reporting. It does not reveal your specific identity. Firebase Analytics may set cookies or use similar browser storage to do this. The server that proxies fuel prices separately keeps ordinary web server logs (such as request timestamps and IP addresses) for operational purposes, as is standard for any hosted website.

2. Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services that may process information on our behalf. Below are links to their privacy policies:

All fuel price data itself is sourced from Service Victoria's public Fuel Price API and is not personal information.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide location-based services. Showing fuel stations near you on the map.
• To manage sessions (Android app only). Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous account so your session can be managed without any personal credentials.
• To analyse usage and improve the App. Understanding how the App is used so we can improve it, via Firebase Analytics on both the Android app and the web app.
• To identify and fix crashes (Android app only). Crashlytics helps us monitor stability and resolve errors.
• To operate the service (web app only). Ordinary server logs help us keep the proxy that fetches fuel prices running reliably.

4. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your information. While we take reasonable steps to secure it, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Children's Privacy

The App does not address anyone under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it. If you believe your child has done so, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective as soon as they are posted on this page, so please check back periodically.
